Pittsburgh Weekend Tournament
Seven teams from Central district (two in junior, two in senior B, and three in senior A) attended the Western Pennsylvania district's winter tournament January 13 and 14 at Allegheny Center Alliance Church. In addition, two junior quizzers joined a team from Pittsburgh for the tournament.
In senior A, Jaqui from Lost & Found joined Zach from Urban Vision to form the team Buckeyes. They finished in 10th place, winning the consolation A quiz. The team Faith Community, consisting of Mary and Sam from Diaspora, Sierra from Key to Knowledge, and district coach Ruthanne, came in 12th place. Quizzers age 21 and younger were invited to participate, so Ruthanne joined in. An Orrville team of Rachael B. and Phillip also participated.
In senior B, a Heritage team of Anne, SeSe, Carrie, and Ruth finished in first place. Orrville's B team, which combined Titus, Tonya, and Hannah C., came in third.
In juniors, Well Versed--a team made up of Huntin' for Jesus's Sondi, Rissi, and Roman plus Urban Vision's Sophie R.--won first place. Orrville's combination team of Drew, Ryan, Megan, and David came in second overall. And Katie and Aletheia from Heritage joined a team from Pittsburgh.
Individually, Jaqui came in eighth place in A division. In B, Ruth placed second, Titus placed fourth, Anne fifth, and SeSe ninth. And in juniors, Ryan Miller came in ninth.
The tournament spanned Friday evening through Saturday afternoon and included more quizzing than a normal meet. Quizzers also played games, participated in two sessions of worship, had the option of sleeping overnight at the church, made new friends, and heard a great message about the prodigal son and his brother from Luke chapter 15.
